I assess to identify areas of need and give recommendations to support those needs. This can involve working with families, learners and schools/workplaces collaboratively. I work with learners at all ages and stages of their educational journey, including into higher education and the workplace.
I have a particular area of interest in assessing and supporting bilingual and multilingual learners, those with English as an Additional Language (EAL) and those with other identified or suspected areas of wider neurodivergence.
I am first and foremost a Primary Teacher and Support for Learning (SFL) Teacher with 13 years experience. I hold my Assessment Practicing Certificate (APC) in dyslexia and Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA).
I have extensive experience teaching Maths and English, alongside supporting learners with numeracy and literacy difficulties. I can identify maths learning difficulties and can formally assess for dyscalculia from January 2024.
By focusing on the individual profile of learners and exploring areas of strength and challenge, I work with schools and workplaces to support achievement.
The assessment is one piece of the jigsaw puzzle in exploring your individual areas of strength and challenge. Detailed background information allows this information to be placed in the wider context of who you are and what you need.
I offer a complimentary initial consultation service, usually over the phone or Zoom, to discuss what the assessment process will involve. After this initial consultation, we can schedule an assessment.
As my tutoring lists are currently at capacity, I support learners and their families through educational advice/consultation. This can be following an assessment, or based on needs identified by school, workplace or families. Support plans are tailored to individual requirements. This may include specific literacy or numeracy interventions and/or study skills. It is important we work together to make support meaningful and practical.
I offer a full assessment to give a complete cognitive profile of the learner, with a specific focus on literacy, dyslexia and/or numeracy. From 2024 I will be able to assess for dyscalculia. I am able to formally diagnose dyslexia, give a report of learner strengths and challenges, and signpost any further referrals. The aim is for us to work collaboratively to achieve the best outcome for the learner.
I have delivered parent and teacher workshops to support knowledge and understanding of a wide range of educational areas. These include dyslexia, phonics, dyscalculia, dyslexia and English as an Additional Language (EAL), and study skills. These are usually arranged through individual contact with workplaces, schools, parents or teachers and can be tailored to suit your requirements.

A dyslexia specialist teacher and assessor consults with learners, workplaces, teachers and parents to support learning. This is done through needs-based discussions, psychometric assessment materials, questionnaires and observations. Further consultation is agreed on an individual basis. Following assessment, a full report is written up, which can be shared with all relevant parties, giving details of areas of strength and challenge, as well as recommended support strategies.
I have an Assessment Practicing Certificate (APC) and am accredited with Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA). These are considered gold standards in dyslexia assessment and means that assessments are charged at the standard rate set by the British Dyslexia Association.
A dyslexia assessment costs £550.
A dyscalculia assessments cost £550.
An assessment looking at both dyslexia and dyscalculia costs £900 and takes place over two or three separate sessions.
My tutoring rate is £60 per hour. Most learners have an hour-long session, but some prefer a half hour session (£30). Currently, my tutoring lists are full.
Formal assessment is most appropriate over eight years of age and up to any age. However, a more needs-based assessment may be appropriate before the age of eight and can be discussed in our initial consultation. An initial consultation is free and goes through what an assessment involves and what might be most appropriate.
A one-off, more specific or in-depth consultation, for example, going through a learner's existing assessment report and/or offering specific educational advice, is £80 per hour.
Yes. I work with a number of schools, higher education establishments and workplaces in Edinburgh and across Scotland to support assessments with learners. I am often contacted by learners or parents directly to arrange tutoring or assessments. I aim to work collaboratively so that we can best support you through your educational journey.
I can offer formal professional training or CPD for schools and workplaces. This can be tailored to your needs, so please to get in touch to discuss this further.
